Child Protection is a Not-To-Forget Topic during Covid-19 Quarantine

Due to Covid-19 on February, 2020 the government of Mongolia has declared "High level readiness" within the country being the country that is bordering with China. In relation to the declaration, one of the decisions made from the Government was to close all schools and kindergarten for January 30 – March 2. However, as the situation around the globe wasn’t promising with outbreak in South Korea where Mongolia has direct flight with, the Government made a decision to extent the school and kindergarten quarantine for another month.

While it was an important decision that Mongolian government had to make in order to protect its citizen, un-expectedly, Household Child injury record increased seemingly.

As Child Focused INGO, World Vision Mongolia initiated a social media activity in partnership with its Ambassador Amarsaikhan and his wife Uran to educate and encourage parents on how to protect their children and use the quarantine time as an opportunity to spend quality time with their children.

As part of World Vision’s global campaign “It Takes A World to End Violence Against Children”, its Office in Mongolia developed book on Positive Parenting. The book content is formed series of practical tips of Child Protection for parents and teachers. The contents in the book was developed into Facebook and Instagram Story through its official page and through the Ambassadors personal account. The story within a month reached 5000 parents and the parents approached World Vision for the access to the book which is available digitally on huuhedburt.mn website and mobile phone application.

After one month social media activity, on March 15, World Vision Mongolia is expanding its Quarantine Child Protection effort to National level through partnering with Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Sports, Police Child Crime Prevention Agency, Family, Child and Youth Development Agency and Ministry of Health in organizing the National Campaign “Child Friendly Household”.

The campaign will be organized on Social Media and Media outlets alone due to public event suspension during Covid-19 quarantine and it is targeting to educate 890.000 parents across Mongolia by not only providing them with practical tips, but also calling the parents into action to protect their children from Household injuries.

During this emerging context, World Vision Mongolia is taking every opportunity to protect children and will continue to seek new ways to do so.
