World Vision International Mongolia implemented interventions to reduce climate change impacts, remarkably increasing herder households’ capacity to prevent and manage natural disasters with manageable losses.
During the autumn, winter, and spring of 2023-2024, we implemented holistic actions such as dzud anticipatory measures and responses to protect the livelihoods of herder households dependent on herding. After raising funds from external and internal sources, World Vision International Mongolia distributed emergency assistance, including multi-purpose cash assistance, food, hygiene kits, and animal fodder, to up to 70,000 individuals, including 34,500 children from 16,600 herder households.
World Vision International Mongolia’s 100 staff members and 400 community members waded through the mud, covering a distance equivalent to 2.7 times the length of the Mongolian border, despite harsh winter conditions, strong winds, and spring snow, to reach isolated children and herders and distribute these assistances.
We are glad that the herders and children were satisfied with the dzud assistance they received. Watch the Dzud response result video below.
