The Mainstreaming Social Accountability in Mongolia II (MASAM II) project has been successfully implemented

The project, which ran from 2022 to 2023, was funded by the Swiss Development Cooperation and the Global Partnership for Social Responsibility (GPSA). It was implemented by the World Bank, World Vision International Mongolia, and Globe International, with support from the Government of Mongolia. The main goal of MASAM II was to strengthen Mongolia's civil society and enable them to hold the government accountable through collaborative social accountability mechanisms.
MASAM (Mainstreaming Social Accountability in Mongolia) Project aimed to increase citizens’ access to public decision-making processes and quality services through social accountability. The first phase of the project was successfully implemented in 2015-2020.
The project aimed to improve welfare and healthcare services at the local level in partnership with other organizations.
The MASAM II project has several components such as leveraging technology for collaborative social accountability, building capacity for monitoring budget allocations and service delivery, improving coordination and institutional capacity at the policy level, and enhancing knowledge and learning. Social accountability refers to the ability of citizens to hold the state accountable and ensure that it is responsive to their needs. It involves active citizen engagement with public institutions and the private sector, as well as participation in decision-making processes that impact their lives.
The closing event for the project took place on June 9, 2023. Partners, stakeholders, and representatives from civil society organizations in 21 provinces came together to celebrate the impact the project has had.
